In 2010, ESU SERVICES conducted an Ecobalance assessment, also known as Life cycle assessment (LCA), on Darjeeling tea. The may be most surprising result of the assessment was the high percentage of energy for boiling water for the preparation of a cup of tea which made 70% of the total post-processing chain.
